If you are a pizza fan like my family but don't always have the time or energy that goes into the process of making a yeast-based dough, then this Grated Potato Crust Pizza is a great recipe for you.

With just 2 ingredients to form a crispy thin crust, then topped and baked with your favourite ingredients to create an irresistibly delicious pizza.

WHAT GOES IN A POTATO CRUST PIZZA

2 INGREDIENTS!!!

4 Grated potatoes ( about 700g) and an egg.

I love versatility in any recipe, and this one is no different. Although the crust has just 2 ingredients, feel free to add spices and dried herbs to your taste. How about giving some of these a try:

• garlic and onion powder

• dried mixed herbs

• Italian dried herbs

• cayenne pepper

HOW TO MAKE A POTATO CRUST PIZZA

Making a potato crust pizza with 2 ingredients is not difficult, but I have a few tips to go with the instructions:

Peel and grate 4 medium-sized ( about 650g) potatoes.

Potatoes contain a lot of water. This water needs to be removed before it is combined with the rest of the ingredients. To do this, place the grated potatoes into a muslin cloth or kitchen towel and squeeze out as much water as you can.

As long as you get most of the water out, it should be fine. the rest of the water from the potatoes will dry in the oven while baking.

Grated Potato Crust Pizza

Remove the potatoes from the kitchen towel or muslin cloth and transfer to a bowl.

Add in one egg and any spices or herbs of your choice. Mix until well combined.

Place the grated potato mixture onto a lined baking sheet and press out to form a circle. It should be between 9 inches ( 25cm ) and 12 inches ( 30cm) in diameter.

Grated Potato Crust Pizza

Bake without topping in a preheated oven of 350°F / 180°C for between 20 and 25 minutes until the crust is crispy and browned at the top and around the edges.

Grated Potato Crust Pizza

Remove the baked crust from the oven and top with a  pizza sauce and toppings of your choice. Place the topped pizza back into the oven and bake for a further 10 minutes until the cheese has melted and the toppings baked to your preference.

SUGGESTIONS FOR PIZZA SAUCE AND TOPPINGS

Spread the pizza with your favourite sauce or go ahead and try out this easy and delicious sauce recipe:

In a pot combine a can of tomatoes or 3 peeled and chopped tomatoes, mixed herbs and salt to taste.

Let this mixture simmer on the stove for about 10 to 15 minutes until reduced and thickened. Spread over pressed pizza dough.

TOPPINGS SUGGESTIONS

I love a basic 3 cheese pizza, with mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan. A few tomatoes and basil leaves and it tastes great.

Use toppings you love or give a try to some of these:

Mozarella

Cheddar

Fresh or dried basil ( my favourite...I could eat the entire plant 🙂

Sweet bell peppers

Pepperoni

Salami slices

The choice of sauce and toppings are endless so have fun and choose your faves 🙂

This recipe was fantastic and especially great for someone who is gluten free, wheat free or yeast free!!
Making the homemade pizza sauce is simple, I added about a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar to mine! Also added some finely sliced pear and fresh basil along with the traditional toppings! Didn’t use meat on the pizza and didn’t miss it!
Will definitely make this again😊

Topping with finely sliced pear sounds amazing, I will love to give that a try too the next time I make this pizza 🙂

I am so happy to find this recipe, because my grandsons are allergic to soy and gluten, respectively. Which making a flour based crust out of the question. Can't wait to try it. I plan on using it for a Salmon Quiche tonight.

Hi Nicole, That's great, I would love to know how it turns out 🙂
To answer your question: I would recommend that you bake the crust before freezing. Freezing it unbaked might change the consistency, taste, and texture of the crust.
I hope this helps answer your question 🙂
Happy Baking 🙂

Thanks! I know potatoes can be challenging to freeze. If I do attempt a freezer version I will let you know how it goes 🙂
