Storing Butter Cookies

Butter cookies keep well, which makes them perfect for planning ahead. Each recipe above includes its own storage notes, but here are a few general guidelines to keep in mind:

Room temperature: Most butter cookies keep well in an airtight container for 7–10 days. Store different flavours separately if you prefer the tastes not to mingle.

Freezing baked cookies: Freeze in a single layer first, then pack into a sealed container or freezer bag. They hold up beautifully for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature.

Freezing the dough: Butter cookie dough freezes wonderfully. Wrap the dough well (or freeze sliced cookie dough on a tray) and store for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge before baking.

To refresh crisp cookies: If they soften, bake on a tray at 150°C / 300°F for 3–5 minutes to bring back that perfect crisp.
