My recipe for Oreo Truffles requires just 3 ingredients and is made in under 30 minutes. It does not require any baking and makes an impressive gift or party treat.
Oreo Truffles
I love quick and easy desserts and this is my all-time favourite. The combination of crushed Oreo and cream cheese, wrapped in a layer of chocolate makes an irresistible treat.
This is an amazing recipe, which is super easy to make and so delicious too.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR OREO TRUFFLES
JUST 3 INGREDIENTS!
Oreo Cookies: You are going to need 32 Oreo cookies to make these truffles. The cookies should be crushed finely. You can either place the cookies in a Ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin or use a food processor. Do not remove the cream from the cookies.
Cream Cheese or Full fat creamed cottage cheese: Use full-fat cream cheese. The full fat contributes to a richer and creamier texture and taste when combined with the crushed Oreo's.
If you are using cottage cheese, make sure that it is creamed and not the chunky type. Chunky cottage cheese has high water content and will not work for this recipe.
Melted Chocolate: 2 cups / 350g /12.03 oz melted chocolate is needed to coat the truffles. The chocolate can be either melted in the microwave or on the stove top.
Melting the chocolate properly is important so here are a few tips to ensure a silky smooth texture whether you choose to use your microwave or stovetop.
TO MELT THE CHOCOLATE ON THE STOVE TOP:
- Roughly chop the chocolate into small pieces
- Place a bowl that's just big enough to sit on top of a pot of simmering water and add your chopped chocolate to the bowl. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. Keep the pot over low heat and stir the chocolate with a rubber spatula.
- Stir chocolate occasionally as it softens.
- Do not allow any water to come into contact with the chocolate: You don't want to risk any water finding its way into your bowl of chocolate. It will cause it to seize so you want to avoid water touching it.
TO MELT THE CHOCOLATE IN THE MICROWAVE
Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl and only microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time.
Once the chocolate is almost melted with just a few lumps, don't microwave it again just stir the chocolate until it is completely smooth. This will ensure that the chocolate does not burn.
FLAVOURINGS AND TOPPINGS
These truffles are amazing on their own, but how about giving some of these flavouring and toppings a try.
- Grate peppermint chocolate ( my favourite) into the filling before shaping
- Top and decorate with chopped candy canes, grated chocolate or colourful sprinkles.
- Dip or coat the truffles in white chocolate.
- Drizzle melted chocolate to give a decorative look.
TIPS TO CREATE THE PERFECT OREO TRUFFLES
- The cookies need to be crushed finely. Either place the cookies in a Ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin or use a food processor. Do not remove the cream from the cookies.
- Freeze the shaped truffles for about 10 to 15 minutes before coating in the melted chocolate. This allows it to firm up and prevent breaking.
- Work gently when dipping the shaped truffles in chocolate.
- Store in the refrigerator to keep the great texture and prevent the chocolate from melting.

How many truffles does this make?
The Gardening Foodie says
Hi Wendy, The number of truffles this recipe makes will depend on the size of which you roll them. I made roughly 20 small truffles. I hope that this helps answer your question 🙂
