- ¾ cup (94g) all purpose flour (same as plain flour -UK OR cake flour) - Replace ¾ cup (94g) of all-purpose flour with an equivalent amount of gluten-free or oat flour for a gluten-free alternative.
- ⅓ cup (66g) brown or white granulated sugar - Use an equal quantity of coconut sugar as an alternative to ⅓ cup (66g) of brown or white granulated sugar.
- ½ level teaspoon baking powder (Do not use baking soda / bicarbonate of soda)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups (240g) dates, pitted and roughly chopped
- 1 cup ( 125g) pecans, chopped - Replace the 1 cup (125g) chopped pecans with your favorite nuts or seeds (like sunflower seeds) or skip them if you prefer.
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten - Instead of 2 beaten eggs, use ½ cup of plain yogurt or buttermilk in this recipe. Keep in mind that it might slightly alter the taste and texture, but it will still be delicious! 😊
- 2 Tablespoons (30g) butter, melted

Position the oven rack in the middle of the oven , and preheat it to 356° F / 180° C (160° C fan).
Grease and line an 8×8-inch (20x20cm)square baking pan with parchment paper. Leave an overhang of parchment paper making it easy to lift out after baking.
