- 2 cups all purpose flour (same as plain flour -UK OR cake flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder (note 1)
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup plain unflavored yogurt or sour cream
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup non-alcoholic sparkling wine, divided (see note 2)
For the buttercream see note 3
- ¼ cup heavy cream (whipping cream) (at room temperature)
- ½ cup non-alcoholic sparkling wine (at room temperature)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 1 cup powdered (icing sugar)
- a pinch of salt (slightly less than ¼ teaspoon)
