These Condensed Milk Passion Fruit Slices is a combination of sweet and tangy flavors to make up a delicious baked dessert.
I am definitely winding the clock back on these amazing retro slices. Uncomplicated, nostalgic baking with delicious results cannot be beaten… EVER. It is no different with these delicious slices, an easy bake which never lasts more than a day in my home.
These slices are made up of a baked crust and topped with a condensed milk, passion fruit and lemon juice mixture. A crunchy base spread with a tangy sweet soft topping
For this recipe I used canned passion fruit. Since fresh passion fruit is a seasonal fruit and not available all year, using canned means that I can add a tropical flavour to my baking year round. If you do have fresh passion fruit then go ahead and use that instead of canned.
This is a twice baked slice recipe. The base is first baked for 15 minutes and then removed from the oven. The condensed milk mixture is then spread over the baked crust and placed in the oven again for another 15 minutes until the top is feels firm to the touch. It is removed from the oven and allowed to cool completely before slicing into individual portions.
I usually just place the tin into the fridge for an hour or freezer for 30 minutes to speed up the cooling and setting process.
Making the Condensed milk passion fruit slices
Start by greasing and lining an 8 inch / 20cm pan with parchment / baking paper allowing the sides to overhang.
TO MAKE THE BASE
Using an electric beater, beat the butter, sugar and vanilla in a bowl until pale and creamy. Beat in the buttermilk or plain yoghurt. If you do not have buttermilk then just add 1 teaspoon lemon juice to a ¼ cup of milk. Leave it aside for 5 minutes to allow it to curdle. Use this mixture instead of the buttermilk in the recipe.
Fold in the flour and milk and mix until smooth.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan. Use the back of a metal spoon to spread and press evenly over the base of the pan. Bake for 15 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven.
TO MAKE THE TOPPING
Use a whisk to combine the condensed milk, lemon juice and passionfruit in a bowl until smooth. Pour the condensed milk mixture over the base.
Bake for 15 minutes or until firm to the touch. Set aside to cool completely. I usually just place the tin into the fridge for an hour or freezer for 30 minutes to speed up the cooling and setting process. Then cut into slices to serve.

- ⅔ cup / 150g butter at room temperature
- ⅓ cup / 65 g sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- ¼ cup / 60ml buttermilk or use substitute SEE NOTE 1
- 1 ¼ cup / 150g all purpose / cake / plain flour
- 2 Tablespoons / 30ml milk
FOR THE TOPPING
- 395 g can / 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- ½ cup / 125ml fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup canned or fresh passionfruit pulp

Oh my goodness, these sound delicious! Pretty much anything with sweetened condensed milk--or with passionfruit!--is my favorite so I ned to try these. I've never seen canned passionfruit though; I'm going to look into it because that sounds like a great way to get tropical flavor in everything 🙂

The worlds biggest Thank you for including both standard and metric measures. I hate doing the conversion math,after looking for my chart. Please pass the word to cooks and chefs, who post to have both in their recipes. Alternative stop odd ingredients would be appreciated too.
